With such a brilliant spectacle in store, it’s no wonder hot air balloon festivals are so popular! After enjoying a hot balloon ride in Las Vegas, you may be itching to check out a balloon festival, where there are often rides, competitions, and other fun events. Here’s a list of exciting upcoming balloon festivals across the United States.

Michigan Challenge Balloonfest

This popular event in southern MI is a fun-filled, action-packed weekend that features a competitive hot air balloon race. There are also numerous activities on the ground, including special events and concerts. The festival is close to downtown Howell, where there are great shops, restaurants, and historic neighborhoods to explore.

Jamesville Balloon Fest

Each year, the Jamesville Balloon Fest in Jamesville, NY draws over 25 of the most unique and unconventional balloons in the country. Balloonists proudly display their balloons during daily weekend flights. This festival is quite popular, and it attracts about 20,000 attendees each year. Arts and crafts, musical performances, and amusement rides are other highlights of the event.

Festival of Balloons

Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival

Each year, about 65 balloons gather in Battle Creek, MI for this entertaining event. There are morning and evening launches, with the evening launches incorporating target-hitting into the flights! Vendors are on hand selling everything from clothing to jewelry, and you’ll find plenty of great food here.

America’s Freedom Festival

Target-shooting is also a theme at the Freedom Festival in Provo, UT. This annual event brings about 25,000 spectators to watch the competition and get a behind-the-scenes look of balloons being inflated for launch. Expert balloonists compete in the difficult Target and Hare competition, which is among the most challenging ballooning competitions in the country.

Stoweflake’s Annual Balloon Festival

Summer in Vermont includes this annual July event at Stowe, where 25 balloons gather for a series of morning and evening launches. The public is welcome to go on hot air balloon rides here, thanks to a local hot air balloon company. Food, wine, beer, and kid’s events are offered at Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa.

This event in Rhinebeck, NY has grown in popularity since its start in 1992. Today, it brings balloonists and visitors from around the world! A total of 25 balloons take off on five launches, including a Moon Glow flight. Helicopter rides, hayrides, and recreational balloon rides offered by a hot air balloon company are other event highlights.

Angola Balloons Aloft

Competition is notoriously fierce at this annual event in Angola, IN. Cash prizes are offered to winners of the festival’s balloon races. On the ground, the event’s numerous attractions include a remote-controlled plane show, a Kid’s Zone, skydiving, helicopter rides, and a classic car show!

Balloons Over Vermilion

Having started in 2016, this now-annual balloon festival is one of the youngest in the country. However, it has proven so far to be a popular event. About 30 balloonists gather to fly in morning and evening launches. Fly-ins and balloon glows are other highlights of the event.

Green River Festival

This exciting balloon festival takes place in Greenfield, MA. It features around 60 balloons that launch over two days. Steamboat Springs Hot Air Balloon Rodeo

As with many hot air balloon festivals, the Steamboat Springs, CO festival promises excitement and entertainment in the air and on the ground. Along with competitive balloon races, this unique event also has a rodeo competition. Swimming in Bald Eagle Lake and the “Art in the Park” exhibit, which has beautiful arts and crafts for sale and show, are other highlights.

Great Texas Balloon Race

The Great Texas Balloon Race started in 1977, which makes it one of the oldest ballooning events in the country. It’s also one of the most prestigious, and you’ll see top-ranked pilots flying here! The event kicks off with a first launch on Friday morning. Balloon Glows take place, weather-permitting, on weekend nights. Concerts provide musical entertainment, and there’s plenty of great food to sample. A vendor display area and an arts and craft exhibit complete the weekend event.
