Many people agree that hot air balloon rides in Las Vegas are about the most magical experience one can have! Floating above Las Vegas lets you see the city from new heights and a new perspective. Like any outdoor activity, however, it’s important to dress appropriately for the occasion to make sure you have a great time. The nice thing about ballooning is that there’s no formal dress code. In fact, you are encouraged to dress as comfortably and casually as you wish. From head to toe, here are some suggestions for clothing that’s ideal for summertime balloon rides.
For multiple reasons, it’s a good idea to cover your head when going on hot air balloon rides in Las Vegas. One of the most obvious is to protect yourself from the strong sun! Another reason to protect your head is that you’ll be standing under the burners, which are about six feet from the floor of the basket. Heat from the burners radiates down towards you, which means you might be uncomfortable without a hat. A baseball cap is a good choice, as it won’t move around or fly off. You’re welcome to wear anything that covers your head, of course, but make sure it’s secure! Along with a hat, many people wear sunglasses to protect their eyes from the summer sun.
Although balloon rides aren’t as strenuous as hiking, ballooning is still an outdoor sport. You’ll have to climb in and out of the basket and walk across open ground to get to the balloon, which means you may cover rocky or uneven terrain. Therefore, plan to wear comfortable, flat shoes (not heels!) that let you move around safely and steadily. Considering that you’ll be in the balloon with other people, you’ll want to make sure your feet are covered in case you get stepped on. Sneakers or hiking shoes are the best option.
In general, the temperature at the cruising altitude of a hot air balloon is close to what it is on the ground. Therefore, your best bet is to dress according to the temperature outside. Also keep in mind what time of day you’ll be flying. If you’re going for a mid-day ride, a t-shirt and shorts will be fine. If you’re flying in the morning or evening, even in summer, be aware that the temperature can change quickly. Therefore, you might want to wear, or at least pack, a light jacket or windbreaker in case the temperature drops while you’re out.
While many people think of hot air ballooning as a romantic activity, keep in mind that it is actually a sport, which means that casual, outdoor-appropriate attire is the way to go. For safety reasons, you should avoid wearing clothing or accessories that can flap around in the wind and get caught or otherwise get in the way. In other words, dresses, skirts, and scarves are not ideal for the ride.
